How to Lent

Sometimes, it feels like Lent is just about giving up chocolate. But deep down, we all desire to do something more for Lent—we just don’t know how to do it.
How to Lent is a new series from the Augustine Institute that aims to equip Catholics with the tools to understand and practice the pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. This series will challenge our preconceived notions about Lent, laying out a roadmap for entering the season with a purpose. Don’t let Lent sneak up on you like it did last year. Instead, heed the call of St. John the Baptist by preparing for the Lord, using How to Lent to transform your spiritual life this Lenten season.

Restore| Lent with Sr. Miriam James, SOLT

Take a healing journey with Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT, as she helps you turn away from what wounds you and toward God who heals you and makes you whole. Each week, Sr. Miriam will lead you to meet the tenderness of God’s mercy, the power of his love, and the restoration of your heart and life as you practice prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and sacrifice.

Mardi Gras⏐March 4th

Not technically during Lent, but a great evening to celebrate before we enter into the season of fasting. Get your tickets online for a delicious Mardi Gras spaghetti dinner by Chef Smoke of the Flame on March 4th from 4-7 PM in the Family Life Center. All proceeds support the 8th grade trip.

Ash Wednesday⏐March 5th

Join us on Ash Wednesday as we enter into the season of Lent and remember that we are dust and to dust we shall return.

9 a.m. Mass with Ashes

12 p.m. Ash Service

6 p.m. Mass with Ashes

7:30 p.m. Mass with Ashes (Spanish)

Stations of the Cross

Join us every Friday in Lent as we remember the Lord's Passion and death. Stations of the Cross will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. On the last Friday in Lent (April 11th) the school will perform the shadow Stations of the Cross.

Fish Fry Suppers

The Knights of Columbus will offer a Fish Fry Supper three Fridays during Lent from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Purchase your tickets in advance in the Narthex after Mass. 1 Adult $20, Family of 4 $50, each additional child $10.

Soup Suppers

We will have soup suppers in the Atriums on the Fridays that we do not have a Fish Fry. These simple Lenten meals do not require tickets but we will accept donations for RCS. Enjoy a nice evening of fellowship with your fellow parishioners before Stations of the Cross.

Parish Mission

Lent is the perfect time for a parish mission, especially this parish mission: Water, Light, and Life! Our journey of conversion may begin as adults, or perhaps in the arms of our parents or godparents as infants. In either case, it doesn’t end there. That journey is lifelong! We never stop turning and returning to God, learning, loving, and growing more deeply in our relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through this Lenten mission, we will focus inwardly on our relationship with God. As we do so, we will develop it ever more profoundly and come to understand what is meant by the call to constant conversion that marks the life of every Christian. Penance Services

Prepare your heart this Lenten season through the sacrament of Confession. Join us at 6:00 p.m. on March 26th for a Lenten Penance Service. We will have priests from around the Deanery at Saint Paul to hear your confession. Come and receive the gift of God’s mercy!

Triduum: A Spiritual Pilgrimage

Triduum: A Spiritual Pilgrimage is a beautiful, 30 minute contemplative documentary. This film cinematically walks through the locations of the Holy Week story, re-presenting the most important days of human history. Immersed in the real and sacred places of the Holy Land, the pilgrim faithful is brought tangibly nearer to the story, the landscape, and the reality of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Triduum draws Catholics and those with open hearts and minds to experience a deeper understanding of these events and places, and offers rich meditations for the pilgrimage of daily life. Now more than ever, as many of us are confined to our homes, journey along this spiritual pilgrimage and be drawn more deeply into the life and love of God.
